Sunpak 544 flash manual
What is this piece of equipment used for? I bet it would work with some of your equipment as even the most current top cameras have manual mode. The is a powerful, auto thyristor and manual flash which you can use on-camera and off-camera. If you got it free, that's great. What equipment do you have? I also have some studio equpment and extra tripods It doesnt look like it would screw into the cameras. I am interested in useing the flash as a back up flash, if I decide to keep it around I got to figure out what I would do in an emergency.
Since I started reading this site I have always liked what you have to say Kim. The is a handle-mount flash. If your cameras don't have X-sync sockets, you'll need to purchase hot shoe adaptors to trigger the flash.
Your cameras probably both have hot shoes. That is, of course, simply a way of getting started with an auto-thyristor flash. Do the opposite if it's too dark. Also try to make sure the green "eye" is pointed towards your subject even if the bounce head is pointed elsewhere. Boucing with the flash is a great way to get indoor people shots that look more real, try it!
Many people put a notecard with a rubber band on the back of the flash as it's bounced off of cielings or walls to fill in eye shadows. Note that this flash is NOT dependent on TTL or any circutry inside the camera except for the signal to flash when the shutter clicks. The Sync cord has a PC socket which should go inside most cameras, and yes, I've used it to no voltage problem with my Canon 20D. Have fun, they're quite a bargain considering the power and flexibility, but they do scare some people, and get you past door guards at some places If you want to make your own portable high-capacity battery packs, archive.
Click here and scroll to the bottom after reading everything else, there is a note about 8 volt pattery packs and chargers and where to get parts Good luck! One more thing I forgot: The batteries go in the top, there's a semicircular indent in the top, you may have to push it hard towards the back to open the top. There is a battery holder inside, you may find corrosion on some contacts, you can use a pencil eraser soaked in rubbing alcohol to clean them.
There is usually a orange dot on one side of the battery pack, it aligns with the orange dot inside the compartment, The battery pack only goes in one way. Thanks so much for the responses! Or is there an additional flash setting? Note that it's best to test with a digital camera and you find yourself first guessing, then tweeking the flash to more or less power.
Alternately you can leave the flash on the same setting and tweek the F- stop on your camera up or down and shoot test shots. The next page contains information on these flash units.
