Slow file dialog

Same for Save As. I have done the following with reboots between : 1. The Shirtpocket solution of booting in safe mode then rebooting seems to have sorted this one for me, for now at least. As I run SuperDuper! Disk tools could not repair it. Turned off Time Machine, re-formatted the drive. Problem gone. User profile for user: bcassid bcassid. All the hardware is factory installed and after reading on another discussion about this problem indicating that it may be related to drives, I was able to fix the problem by un-mounting one of the four disks.

I ran Disk Utility on the the problem disk and it found many problems. So it appears that was the problem in my case. Ask a question Reset. As a result, your viewing experience will be diminished, and you have been placed in read-only mode.

Please download a browser that supports JavaScript, or enable it if it's disabled i. After about 10 seconds, the window blinks and the top bar becomes white. About 5 seconds after that the dialog opens. I am running version 7. It is very snappy. What happens if you try a zipped version? Extract it to a folder of your choice, make sure npp is NOT running and execute npp from the zipped version.

Is it as slow as the installed one? Can you post your debug info, which is available from the last menu item, the? Running the zipped version has the exact same issue. It has the issue on both the regular installed version and the zipped version. How satisfied are you with this reply?

Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. From my perspective, this appears to be windows file write permission or a retry loop cycle issue, so I'm surprised that no one has specific information about what's happening and either a fix or a "it can't be fixed" I've already done a full delete everything and re-install windows 10 several months ago because of increasing frustrations with anything win 10, and, while that consumed a huge amount of time doing so and "recreating" what I needed over the following weeks, the steps in your link appear to require even more time and effort.

Hi Beverly - I'm sorry there isn't a more specific fix I know of for your extremely rare issue so rare I've never seen it before after eleven years daily in forums happening with an obscure Photo viewer that likely doesn't even involve Microsoft. I'm not sure why you'd expect me to know a specific fix and then not want to try the repairs that I did suggest which are most indicated. Note the driver steps are so important they are printed in red.

The reason I ask you to do this is because no one of millions who have followed the install in that link has ever come back to report problems that I have seen. It is also a great learning experience that will make you permanently the master of your PC because you will learn what works best and have applied it with your own hands. Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved. Guess I shouldn't have made the "no one" reference since my thoughts were more "no one at ms" I just went through a Win 10 full re-install a couple of months ago, and, while the installation process wasn't difficult and didn't take that long, over the next couple of weeks it was a full time job to find missing pieces and go through the configuration requirements that resulted from the wipe and install.

I would have thought that over half a billion downloads would have kept it out of the "obscure" column although it is, as I have, getting old ;- Your re-install option is still on the table, but I am not up for it at this point. And, I will and do report back. In reply to BeveHoward's post on August 25, It's been a LONG month! In reply to bevhoward's post on August 26, Also I have to say you were extremely polite with the MVP helping you, though he seemed a tad argumentative.

Glad you solved the issue - mine is similar, but happens with ANY "Save as This helps, will look into related possibilities. In reply to skazoo's post on November 5, Does anyone know if there is a registry entry that sets the "timeout" length for these delays?

Thanks again. Please post what you find in your case. Only when I disabled my LAN connection did the dialog windows appear instantly, as they had done before. I have now restored the original configuration, but the "save as" dialog window continues to come up very slowly on the Win7 box.

Any thoughts, clues or suggestions as to how to fix this non-critical but very irritating problem would be greatly appreciated After considerable effort on this problem, I finally figured out the solution - in my case, at least. As I mentioned, I had recently changed the names of several of the PCs on my home network. That causes it to go into a loop for awhile. I went through the Registry on each machine and removed all the old names and - voila!

Hope this helps I hsve found this, which seems to be a potential solution. Haven't tried it yet. Will let you know if it works I used the Find function in the Edit menu of the Registry Editor. I searched for the old PC names in each of the Registries on the four PCs I have on my home network and deleted any keys containing those names.

There were quite a few, but I think the primary cause of the looping problem was those that were identified as Servers in the Registries. I've hit a similar problem since or at least exaserbated since changing to a new ISP service BT Total Broadband which included a wifi router upgrade.
